Shoulder & elbow
A longstanding interest in shoulder disorders
Shoulder and elbow problems can affect sleep, work and simple daily movement. A precise clinical assessment helps distinguish the structures involved and the treatment options that may be appropriate.
A professional milestone
In 1995, Prof Dr Abhay Manchanda introduced the use of ultrasonography for the diagnosis of shoulder diseases in Indore.
Shoulder pain and rotator cuff disorders
Pain can arise from tendons, muscles, joints and nearby tissues. Rotator cuff disorders affect the group of tendons that helps lift and rotate the arm.
Stiffness and arthritis
Restricted movement may result from several conditions. Shoulder arthritis can cause pain, stiffness and reduced function, and treatment depends on severity and personal needs.
When imaging may be useful
Musculoskeletal ultrasonography can provide dynamic imaging of structures around the shoulder and may assist clinical assessment in appropriate patients. It is not always superior to MRI or other investigations; the choice depends on the clinical question.
Shoulder and elbow replacement
Replacement is considered only for selected patients with advanced damage and significant symptoms after a full discussion of alternatives, risks and rehabilitation.
A considered next step
Discuss your orthopaedic concern
An individual consultation can help clarify the diagnosis and appropriate treatment options.
