Bone tumours
Careful evaluation without assumptions
A finding in a bone can have different causes. The words ‘bone lesion’ or ‘bone tumour’ do not by themselves establish what the condition is or how it should be treated.
What evaluation may involve
Assessment begins with the history and a clinical examination. Imaging helps show the location and characteristics of a lesion. In selected cases, biopsy and pathology may be needed to identify its nature.
Treatment is individualized
Evaluation and treatment depend on the type, location and behaviour of the lesion. Not every bone tumour requires surgery; observation, further investigation or specialist treatment may be appropriate in different situations.
Orthopaedic oncology in Indore
In 2013, Prof Dr Abhay Manchanda introduced orthopaedic oncology—the specialist assessment and management of bone tumours—in Indore. This is presented as a professional milestone, not a claim of national priority.
